Celebrate London Pride 2024

What is Pride?

Pride is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, pivotal 1969 protests in the US that significantly advanced gay rights globally. Pride is a celebration of love, friendship, and progress in LGBTQ+ rights, while also acknowledging ongoing struggles. It emphasises acceptance, equality, and the contributions of LGBTQ+ people, promoting education and awareness of issues affecting the community.

Pride month highlights the harm of homophobia, past and present, and encourages everyone to be proud of who they are. Celebrations typically include colourful parades, concerts, and marches. The term “Pride” was suggested by L. Craig Schoonmaker, who noted its importance in encouraging people to embrace their identity. Since June 28, 1970, Pride events have grown increasingly larger and more vibrant.

The London Pride Parade

The Pride in London Parade takes place on Saturday, 29 June 2024.

Pride in London is solely run by volunteers. The organisation and event is funded by donations, fundraising and partnerships with organisations. The event this year will cost £1.7m to produce. If you would like to donate to Pride in London please click here to help keep the event free.

The parade will see around 500 groups made up of LGBTQ+ Community Groups, LGBTQ+ businesses, and partners, forming together to total over 32,000 participants. As usual, the Mayor of London will be leading the parade!
