Created by Amelia Studios to celebrate the release of Dermot Kennedy’s album Sonder, the London pop-up transformed an album launch into an immersive physical experience. Hosted at Flat Iron Square, the activation combined experiential design, merchandise, storytelling and an intimate live performance.
While this activation took place in 2022, the ideas behind it feel more relevant than ever. The space gave fans an opportunity to engage with the music beyond streaming platforms and concert venues. Several years later, the activation stands as an early example of a trend that has continued to gain momentum across the music industry: creating meaningful moments between the gigs.
The Rise Of Experiences Between Tours
Live shows remain one of the most powerful ways for artists to connect with audiences, but they are often limited to a single evening. Pop-ups, listening events, exhibitions, fan spaces and merchandise experiences offer something different. They extend the lifespan of an album, create opportunities for deeper engagement and give communities a place to gather outside of a concert setting.

This shift reflects a broader change in fan expectations. Audiences increasingly want more than access to music alone. They want to participate in the culture surrounding it, whether that’s discovering exclusive merchandise, experiencing an artist’s creative world firsthand or connecting with other fans who share the same passion.
Building Community Beyond The Stage
For artists, labels and creative agencies, these experiences can help bridge the gap between major releases, tours and festival appearances. They create additional touchpoints that strengthen community while generating moments that naturally travel across social media and word of mouth.
As experiential marketing continues to evolve, the most successful music activations are often those that create genuine reasons for people to come together. Looking back, Dermot Kennedy’s Sonder pop-up serves as a strong reminder that some of the most valuable fan connections happen not on stage, but in the moments that surround it.
